The Curse of Thursday

Hey everyone! So, remember the last typhoon saga I shared? Well, buckle up because it happened "again". Last Thursday, Taiwan got a surprise visit from Typhoon Kong-Rey, one of the biggest storms of the season. It’s super rare to have a typhoon in the fall. Usually, they swing by only in summer.  But the strangest part? They always seem to come on Thursdays!

Now, Thursday just so happens to be my busiest day of the week with classes and meetings with my professor. So, yes, a small part of me was thrilled to have an excuse to skip the day (not so much skipping work, though), but the frequency of these Thursday disruptions is why I’ve started calling it the curse of Thursday. At this rate, half of my Thursdays this semester have turned into unexpected “holidays” courtesy of the weather.

Typhoon Kong-Rey was no joke, though. I barely even dared to peek out my window—the howling wind sounded like it could lift the building! Thankfully, alhamdulillah, we all made it through safely. But the next morning, as I headed to work, the roads and sidewalks were littered with fallen branches. It was pretty sad seeing how hard the trees had taken it.

So for now, I'm crossing my fingers that Kong-Rey was the last of this year’s Thursday storms. But if not... well, maybe I’ll just start marking every Thursday as a “weather break” in my calendar—just in case!
